Lake Wallenpaupack Dam & Power Plant Tours @ Meet at the PPL Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center
Aug 25, 2012 @ 10:00 AM to Aug 26, 2012 @ 3:00 PM
Presenters: PPL Staff Not everyone has had a chance to walk across the Wallenpaupack Dam for a great view of the lake and the dry riverbed where the Wallenpaupack Creek once flowed. And a trip to the power plant along the Lackawaxen River is a rare treat, too. During this free tour, you will hear about the history surrounding the construction of PPL’s renewable energy plant and learn about the increase in energy demand since Lake Wallenpaupack began operating as a hydroelectric plant in the 1920s. Make sure you stop in at the Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center either before or after your tour to see some displays of arrowheads, a dugout canoe and other local artifacts. Enjoy some refreshments provided by the Wallenpaupack Historical Society and see some historic photos depicting life from that era. For your safety, please wear close-toed shoes. Tours will run continuously during the times indicated and will be conducted rain or shine. Visitors will be greeted by a PPL escort and guided out onto the dam in small groups. For those who also wish to tour the power plant in Kimbles, bus transportation will be provided. Please note: this event is not handicap-accessible. Registration is not required.
