| Throughout the Hotel Fauchère, there are a number of Hudson River School paintings on display. In the early 19th century, as the young American nation began to look westward for expansion, the New World paradise was starting to be forever altered by development. The Hudson River School painters, inspired by the uncultivated regions of the Hudson River Valley and the Catskill Mountains in New York State, documented the unspoiled perfection of the wilderness as well as the encroachment of progress, often represented by depicting stumps or forests, a style recording panoramic views in a romantic semi-realistic style, with an underlying mood of serenity and contemplation.
