| Founded in 1966, with the donation of 341 acres and the historic buildings, Lacawac Sanctuary, a non-profit organization, 501 (c) (3), has grown to encompass 510 acres, including a mature second-growth forest, a glacial lake, two ponds, several wetlands, and over one mile of shoreline on Lake Wallenpaupack. Lacawac is managed by a volunteer board and limited staff with assistance from a strong base of volunteers. It operates through donations, grants, user fees, memberships, and income from endowment. The mission of Lacawac Sanctuary Foundation is to preserve Lake Lacawac, its watershed, the surrounding forest and land, and historic buildings.
