Founded in 1966, with the donation of 341 acres and the historic buildings, Lacawac Sanctuary, a non-profit organization, 501 (c) (3), has grown to encompass 510 acres, including a mature second-growth forest, a glacial lake, two ponds, several wetlands, and over one mile of shoreline on Lake Wallenpaupack. Lacawac is managed by a volunteer board and limited staff with assistance from a strong base of volunteers. It operates through donations, grants, user fees, memberships, and income from endowment.
