Our home farm is nestled in the hills of sourthern Wayne county just 3/4 mile east of Hamlin,19m north of Mt. Pocono, 15m east of Scranton, 14m west of Hawley, and 15m south of Honesdale. My grandfather's farm consists of aprox. 90 acres of hay, 960 acres of corn, and we have a beef cattle herd of about 40 brood cows. Occasionally I have some range chickens. I started my farm stand in 2001 with just pumpkins, cornstalks, and gourds. Since then I have broadened my selections to include more of a variety of vegetables.
The 3 main crops I specialize in are sweetcorn, tomatoes, and pumpkins. I also have more of a variety. Depending on the health of the maple trees the previous year I sometimes make maple syrup. All of our crops a grown with conservation in mind.
My grandfather and I "NO-TILL" all of our crops. No-till farming saves soil, water, time, reduces herbicide use, conserves soil carbon (organic matter is soil carbon wich is destroyed by tilling the soil) and requires much less fuel. Matt's Farm Market is open daylight hours 7 days self serve. (I work full time on my grand fathers farm so I can't always be at the farm stand.) Summer through Fall. Daily, daylight hours.
