A small parking area off Firetower Road can be reached by following the signs for Black Walnut Inn where Schocopee turns for the County Park. Where this road turns to gravel (it can be rough and rutted), you’ll see in about a mile a sign for Yellow Pine trail on the left. This perpendicular ridge trail (about 1 ¼ miles) intersects with the Range Trail (#8) on its way out to Buckhorn Fire Tower, and passes over a wetland that is the beginning of Pinchot Brook.
